Sambandha is a unique platform where the girls who get married from Ashrama remain in touch with the institution, treating it as their maternal home. This project ensures that the connection between the Ashrama and the married girls continues even after they leave.
Most of the girls who enter Abalashrama are orphans, and the Ashrama takes responsibility not only for providing shelter and education but also arranging marriages for them when the time comes. The committee at Ashrama carefully handles the process of finding a suitable groom for the girl.
The marriage process includes the following conditions:
The caste of the girl is never revealed.
The wedding is a simple Arya Samaj style ceremony held on a Sunday, with a limit of 25 members from the groom’s family attending.
The groom’s side is not allowed to accept any gifts from the girl’s family.
The committee ensures that the groom and his family are a good match, visiting their home before allowing the girl to meet them. However, the final decision always rests with the girl.
After the marriage ceremony, Ashrama continues to be the girl's maternal home (ತವರು ಮನೆ). The married girl returns every year during the festive season to receive the traditional Gowri Bagina (ಗೌರಿ ಬಾಗಿಣ) – a gift given to a married daughter by her maternal home.
When the girl becomes pregnant, the Simantha (ಸೀಮಂತ) ceremony is performed at Ashrama, along with a one-day trip for the girl's family to spend quality time with her.
The girls also visit Ashrama on Raksha Bandhan to tie rakhi to the Bhayya (brother), further strengthening the family bond.
In summary, Sambandha is a distinctive project that helps maintain the emotional connection between the Ashrama and the girls even after they marry, ensuring that they continue to feel supported and cherished by their maternal home.
